Ukrainians Block Russian Trucks On Border With Belarus

19

Belarusian customs officials inform they are ready for the situation and promise “further steps.”

About fifty Ukrainian activists are blocking the entrance of trucks with Russian registration plates to Ukraine, as well as those with Russian goods, at the checkpoint “Domanovo” in Volyn region of Ukraine, near the border with Belarus and Belarusian checkpoint “Makrany”.

“The trucks are being turned away at the Belarusian border as well, as they are aware of this campaign, – the 112.ua correspondent reports. – The activists say they won’t let the trucks in unless Russia returns the captives.”

The initiators of the action are representatives of public organizations and demobilized participants of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The action is going to be termless, “until the authorities listen to the requirements and realize, that we should not let Russian goods in.”

Earlier the Belarusian border committee announced that it was aware about the campaign and “if need be, will take further control measures.” “The Belarusian side informs drivers of trucks with Russian registration plates about the campaign and directs them to other crossing points,” – press secretary of the State Border Committee Aliaksandr Tsishchanka told Russian News Agency TASS.

The campaign near the Belarusian border is neither the first nor the only one. Ukrainians also block Russian trucks on mountain passes leading to Zakarpatye from other regions of Ukraine, and do not let the trucks to Europe. As UNIAN reports, “Right Sector”, “Carpathian Sich”, the Union of participants of war in eastern Ukraine, “Twin-Cities Of Ukraine City Of Uzhgorod” and a volunteer corps “Azov” take part in the campaign. At first it was called ”Polite Blockade”, and later, in honour of the symbol of Zakarpatye, “Bear Campaign.”

According to a journalist Alla Hayatova, who helps to organize the blockade in Zakarpatye, trucks with Belarusian, Latvian and other registration plates, as well as Russian trucks that came over to Ukraine from Europe, are allowed to pass:

“Please refuel here, leave the money, drive through, and, what is the most important, do not come back,” – she added.
