Belarusians Who Died For Ukraine Awarded In Kyiv

Mikhail Zhyzneuski and Ales Charkashyn have been honoured with an award The Hero-Inhabitant of Kyiv posthumously.

Today at the building of Kyiv city state administration dwellers of Kyiv who had died in Maidan and in the region of combat operations in Donbas, Eastern Ukraine, have been honoured with the badge The Hero-Inhabitant of Kyiv.

Three Belarusians have also received awards posthumously. The Hero-Inhabitant Of Kyiv award is a public initiative which is realized with the support of the Union of ATO Veterans and the Ukrainian Association of ATO Veterans.

Alina Fortuna, a journalist, writes that among the awarded persons are citizens of Belarus Mikhail Zhyzneuski and Ales Charkashyn (a nom de guerre Taras). Their relatives had arrived to receive the awards.

The award has been also given to Vitaly Tilizhenko (aka Keks), a Ukrainian who had created a tactical group Belarus. “They say, Heroes do not die. No, they do die. They are the first to go to barricades, to go into the combat. Heroes die, and we should remember them,” – said a volunteer Volha Halchenko during the ceremony.

Mikhail Zhyzneuski was the second victim of Euromaidan shooting from the Heavenly Hundred – the fighters who died in the barricades for liberty and independence of Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s president, awarded Mikhail Zhyzneuski with the Order of the Heaven's Hundred Heroes after his death.

An activist from Brest Ales Charkashyn was wounded on August 10, 2015 in a battle near the village of Bilokamenka in Donbas and died in a hospital in Zaporizhia after a few weeks in coma. Ales Charkashyn was a member of the tactical group Belarus within the Right SectorUkrainian Voluntary Corps. He had a nom de guerre Taras. Once Ales Charkashyn was a member of Zubr youth movement. He is also known by his active participation in the activities of the organizing committee for creation of the Belarusian Christian Democratic Party.

Vitaly Tilizhenko, a Ukrainian, dies during a tank attack of pro-Russian militants near Volnovakha. The soldier helped to set up the tactical group Belarus, defended Euromaidan, was a volunteer in the ATO.
