“Belarusian Stability Bubbles” Blown in Vitsebsk

Vitsebsk BCD activists had been prohibited to hold actions dedicated to social problems so they were forced to look for other forms of civil activity.

A performance “Belarusian Stability Bubbles” took place in Vitsebsk on April 18. The participants blew soap bubbles in the Biliova micro-district, the human rights center “Viasna” informs.

According to the participants of the action, soap bubbles symbolize a polyclinic complex that the authorities promised to build in Biliova and never kept their promise, as well as a school and a kindergarten which the inhabitants of the new micro-district need so badly.

"All the promises made by the authorities with regard to strengthening of welfare of their people, whom they are so “committed” to, are just bubbles. The polyclinic that has never been built in Biliova, and a school, and a kindergarten, which the inhabitants of the new district lack so desperately. The promised polyclinic in South-7 micro-district is a bubble, as well as the new building of the hospital in Vorsha, and a new polyclinic in Navapolatsk – all these are just bubbles. The bubbles symbolize empty promises – here they fly, so colourful, a feast for the eye. In a moment – they are gone, like they have never existed,” Tatsiana Seviarynets explains the meaning of the performance.

The problem of medical service looks all but the most important issue for Belarus, the BCD activists believe. However, the local authorities do not allow to discuss this problem with the home people. The pickets that had been planned to hold in Pershamaiski and Chyhunachny districts of Vitsebsk on April 8 were prohibited. In Vorsha, the authorities banned the action against the cease of construction of a new building of a hospital named after Siamashka.
