The authorities of Brest have prohibited the activists of the Belarusian Left Party “Fair World” to conduct pickets against deterioration of the Belarusians’ material condition.

Chairperson of the party’s city structure Lyudmila Dzianisenka has informed to BelaPAN news agency that they had planned to organize two pickets, a 4-hours and a 2-hours one, in the pedestrian Savetskaya Street in the city center on April 29. The party activists wanted to turn the public attention to the downfall of the citizens’ life level in connection with the growth of prices for goods, tariffs for communal and transport services, to the necessity of monthly indexation of salaries, pensions and allowances in correspondence with the inflation level, as well as to protest against the retirement age raise.

According to Dzianisenka, the city executive committee prohibited the pickets in the applied places over the reason that these places had not been defined by the committee for conducting mass events.

“I think the authorities simply dread the protest actions and prohibit them because of that,” the politician has said. — However, it will not stop us from collecting signatures of the city dwellers against raising the prices for the communal services under the appeal to PM Andrei Kabiakou. By now, over 200 Brest dwellers have signed the appeal.”
