12 Dramatic Photographs From Chernobyl Way In Minsk

The Chernobyl Way rally was held in Minsk on April 26, on the 30th anniversary of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Nasha Niva published a photo essay of the event.

We remind that about 2,000 people marched to the park of Peoples’ Friendship under white-red-white national flags and banners of the European Union.

The main slogans of the rally were: “Chernobyl Is Not Over – The Catastrophe Is Still On,” “Say No To Astravets NPP,” “Chernobyl Is 30 Years Of The Kremlin And Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s Lies“ and “The Budget Has Been Spent On The NPP – No Money Is Left For Wages.”

Protesters opposed to economic development of the contaminated territories and return of the population, demanded to stop the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, to reveal the truth about the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Belarus, to provide a systematic and accessible to citizens radiological control, and demanded respect for human rights and democratic reforms.

This year, a Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich became an honorary chairperson of the organizing committee of Chernobyl Way rally.
