Belarus Stands Among Most Pessimistic Countries With Regard To Consumer Confidence Index

Our country occupies the third place among the most pessimistic countries in the world, following South Korea and Ukraine.

The company Nielsen issues new data on the Global Consumer Confidence Index every quarter. The index is established over three indicators: the consumers’ assessment of the labour market situation, personal financial state and readiness to spend money.

In 2016, the company first included Belarus in the diapason of its research, charter97.org has found out. The monitoring results turned out disappointing – our country occupies the third place among the most pessimistic countries of the world after South Korea and Ukraine. Among all the other countries, India keeps the highest rate of confidence and optimism – 134 points; and this figure has grown by 3 points from the previous quarter.

According to the message, in the first quarter 2016 Russia has first joined the list of countries with the lowest consumer confidence index in 11 years. Its index has fallen by 11 points down to 63.

"Such situation happened in the first half of the year 2009, when the crisis stroke, the index significantly fell back then – from 104 down to 75 points,” - the researchers note.

The Belarusians’ moods, according to the report, are close to the Ukrainians’ – 50 points, while respondents from Kazakhstan remain much more confident in the prospects – 73 points respectively.
