Small Business Lost 56 Thousand Employees Within Year

In 2015 the average number of employees of medium and large enterprises also reduced.

The average number of employees of small business organizations amounted to 762.8 thousand people on January 1 this year. This is stated in the National Statistics Committee report on major economic performance indicators of micro and small organizations in Belarus last year. Sole traders are not counted in the statistics, tut.by writes.

During the year the average number of micro and small organization employees decreased by almost 55.7 thousand. Thus, on January 1, 2015, 818,466 workers were involved in small businesses.

The majority of small business workers are still employed in the trade, repair of motor vehicles, household goods and personal items (39% of the total number of organizations), industry (14%), real estate operations, rent and services to consumers (14%), transport and communications (12%).

105 thousand small business organizations, including 88% of micro organizations and 12% of small organizations were operating in Belarus on January 1 this year.

We remind that in 2015, the average number of employees of medium and large enterprises decreased as well. For example, the industry lost over 50.8 thousand people, construction – 16.6 thousand. Transport workers went into the red by 6.3 thousand professionals, while agriculture – by 5.9 thousand.

Micro organizations are commercial organizations with an average number of 15 employees inclusively within the calendar year, and small organizations are commercial organizations with an average number of employees from 16 to 100 inclusively within the calendar year.
