Makei: We Will Not Sacrifice Relations With Russia For Sake Of EU And United States

Removing sanctions against Belarus does not mean a reversal of the country to the West.

This was stated by head of the Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei.

The Belarusian Foreign Minister underlined in his interview to ONT TV channel that Belarus will always comply with the obligations assumed by the CSTO, the EAEC and the CIS.

“We always tell our European partners, American partners, other partners that we will never build our relations with one or another state, or with one or another integration structure, to the disadvantage of our traditional allies, or at the expense of our traditional allies. We have always complied with, and we will comply with our obligations under the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, and especially within the framework of the Union State and the CIS,” – the head of the Foreign Ministry said.

Makei also admitted that Belarus is interested in the diversification of international relations, but it’s not going to give up on traditional allies.

“Therefore, there shouldn’t be any fear that Belarus will “reverse” this or other way. We, of course, are interested in our foreign policy and foreign economic relation diversification. It is in our national interest. But this does not mean that we will abandon our traditional markets and cooperation with our traditional allies. Therefore, there is no danger to anyone, I mean our traditional partners,” – he said.

The Belarusian head of the Foreign Ministry called the anti- Belarus sanction period a wasted time for everyone, and in this regard, said that considering that the sanctions did not help the EU to “solve problems” concerning Belarus, “sanctions against Russia are far more useless.”
