Belarusian Customs Officers Call Russians to Introduce a Limit of 22 Euro for Parcels

Customs officers cannot but thinking about Belarusians who buy things online using Russian intermediaries.

Head of the SCC (State Customs Committee) Yury Senko says that after introduction of a limit for duty-free parcels of €22 and 10 kilograms their number has decreased insignificantly. He also stated the Russian side was working on reduction of limits. Now the limit for duty-free parcels from abroad in Russia equals to €1000 a month.

- The Russian side is considering steps towards reduction of the limit. They are working on it, Yury Senko said. In his words, the Belarusian customs officers call Russian colleagues to come to a single limit, BelTA reports.

As to the ways to bypass the limit of €22 with the help of Russian intermediaries, the head of the SCC stated: "Let's try to do like that. And what if the customs service catches you? I think you will tell than how it is useful to bypass the customs service."

He also told that he did not use foreign online shopping.

–My acquaintances bought things there and asked me questions. And I give answers as a person who takes care of his country and the economy. And everything is going to be clear, Yury Senko said.

He emphasized he wore Belarusian costumes and shoes. Yury Senko also mentions low limits introduced in the European Union, and China has reduced its limits from $7 to $0.

At the same time the head of the SCC stated new limits had not strongly affected the number of parcels from abroad.

- There was a certain increase while the introduction stage. Today these are the most popular deposits in Belarus. There are a bit fewer of them. However, those who wanted to buy cheap things keep doing it, the chairman of the Border Committee assures.
