Lukashenka Forbids Giving Pessimistic Assessments Of “Economic Growth”

The dictator has taught the officials to ”follow the trend” of the world economy.

In the upcoming five years, Belarus “needs to stay within the trend of the world economy, science and progress”, Lukashenka has said at the session dedicated to the project of basic guidelines of the program of socio-economic development of Belarus for 2016-2020, which will be discussed at the fifth “all-Belarusian people’s assembly”, BelTA informs.

"We need to have realistic but ambitious goals. In the coming five years, we must not only restore what we have lost, but preferably to stay within the trend of the world economy, science and progress. We must in no case be left behind. We must not stay behind, as we have everything to grow every year. The program should define what we need to do to achieve that,” - Lukashenka has said. According to him, they should clearly define the ways and mechanisms to fulfill the plans.

"Let us take the GDP figure – where it comes from? Where shall we sell our production, in what scope?" – he has wondered.

Several basic questions have been set before Prime Minister Andrei Kabyakou, who has made a speech with his report at the session. In particular, how strained and achievable the aims are, what instruments they have to overcome the lack made in the previous five years; what measures should be taken to come out to the sustainable trajectory of the economic growth at least at the level of an average world one - 2,5-3,5% per year.

"Meanwhile, you should not give too pessimistic assessments, sinking down to the level of previous years by inertia. No pessimism!" – Lukashenka has stated.
