New Details of an Attack on Vasil Bykau's Sister

Valyantsina Bykava is in stress, she has her right arm and three ribs broken.

89-year old writer's sister is in Ushachy resuscitation department. Only sons of Vasil Bykau are allowed.

Her neighbor Tatstsiana takes care of her. She is medical practitioner and she managed to visit Valyantsina in the resuscitation department.

"Aunt Valya recognized me, but she is in stress. She was really scared and suffered a strong pain! Her right arm and three ribs are broken, a lot of blood tumors. Employees of Ushachy City Executive Committee came to the hospital. All doctors treat her well. They say they have all the necessary medicines and try to support her - yesterday they had a consultation. She needs no personal things yet, she is still in the resuscitation department. She eats almost nothing - a spoon of yogurt and mash. She is really stressed and shocked," Tatstsiana told Radio Svaboda.

Her neighbor says that after the attack on May 27 Valyantsina could call the emergency on her own. She did not see her attacker: when she heard a noise in the store room, she came out to see... She was attacked from behind and had her mouth shut and then hit several times.

The police was later informed. The neighbor says that nothing has been touched after the accident: the attacker escaped and did not steal anything.

The investigative process is kept in secret: local inspector of Ushachy ROVD Aliaksei Baradulka does not answer calls. The accident is not mentioned in an official police review of the Vitsebsk region.
