Student Facing Expulsion For Flashmob “Dance In Favour Of Reforms”

Independent student organizations launched the flash mob “Dance In Favour Of Reforms” in February. They wanted to draw attention to the lack of reforms in higher education.

Activist of the Movement For Freedom Alina Nahornaya received a warning of expulsion from the Baranavichy State University, having shot a video in support of student flash mob # tantsuemZaReformy pyx.by reports.

Independent student organizations launched the flash mob “Dance In Favour Of Reforms” in February. They wanted to draw attention to the lack of reforms in higher education. Alina Nahornaya and her friends’ video appeared in social networks on May 25. It is about students dancing near the university where they study, in this case, the Baranavichy State University.

A few days later, on May 27, an employee of the University contacted her in social networks. “Alina, if today you do not delete the video “Dance In Favour Of Reforms” until 17.00, you will be expelled,” –Iryna wrote in Vkontakte personal messages.

“I have passed the session with an average score of 8.2M, – Nahornaya answered. – Why are you going to expel me?“

The university employee said there were problems with Alina’s coursework. According to Alina Nahornaya, she had been just re-registered as a 4th year student, and learned about the necessity of writing the work during the session, the teachers gave her time until August.

After some time the same woman wrote the student on Viber. “Alina, we do not intend to expel you, but we strongly request to delete this video. We have a well-functioning university student government, and all the questions that arise, you may want to discuss with them. Do not throw a shadow on our university,” – the employee of the University noted.

At that Nahornaya stressed that “the video aimed not to throw a shadow on their university in particular, but refers to our education system as a whole.”

The activist of the Movement “For Freedom” considers these threats illegal. “I think, they’ll try to make me queer up the coursework. Threats are illegal and violate my rights,” – Alina Nahornaya said.
