BCD Activists Bring Symbolic Empty Purses To Council Of Ministers And Economy Ministry

An empty purse symbolizes that people have no money.

On May 5 representatives of the organizing committee for creation of the Belarusian Christian Democratic Party passed symbolic empty purses to the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Economy for heads of these government bodies.

“An empty purse is a symbol that people have no money now. And ministers have lots of money, and probably they cannot put them in one purse. We have presented them new ones,” – Rymasheuski told BelaPAN.

Beside purses, a collective address and a concept of modernization of the economic system of Belarus have been brought to the departments for citizen’s addresses of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Economy. The concept had been developed with participation of independent experts, including the former head of the National Bank Stanislau Bahdankevich. These documents are to be also sent to Lukashenka’s administration, the Finance Ministry and the National Bank as well.

It is noted in the address that the economy of Belarus has entered “a stage of a protracted social and economic crisis, which victims are in the first place Belarusian families, which do not see prospects in the future.”

The BCD activists demand the government to develop a comprehensive programme of economic reforms, which would include: creation of normal legal framework for sole traders, creation of new jobs, measures for counteraction to arbitrariness of officials and judges, and others.

Law-enforcers in mufti observed the movement of the BCD representatives from the Economy Ministry to the House of Government, they also videoed the events.
