Seviarynets: Eduard Palchys Should Be Recognized As Political Prisoner
EDUARD PALCHYS

If this happens, the 1863h.com site establisher might be released before “elections.”

On 13 June, in the evening the Belarusian Popular Front Party held a meeting of the committee “Set Eduard Palchys Free!” in the Minsk office.

On May 26, 25-year-old Lida resident Eduard Palchys, the creator and author of the resource 1863h.som under the pseudonym John Silver, was extradited from Russia to Belarus.

And at the end of last week he was moved from jail № 1 in Valadarski Street to the Zhodzina detention center. At that he has not been provided with a lawyer yet.

Co-chairman of organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party Pavel Seviarynets stated to “Radio Racyja”The fact that Eduard Palchys should be recognized as a political prisoner.

– Palchys’s parents are afraid to give interviews and refuse publicity, not realizing that only it can save.

– Unfortunately, yes. I spoke on the phone with his wife. Pretty long. She was also against the publicity. She said that it was his decision. But I do not exclude that someone is putting pressure on them, perhaps through the lawyer or special services.

You just have to understand: if we stay quiet, they leave us to rot in prison. If there is publicity, there is a chance that the person is released earlier, and that he is not pressed so hard. The Zhodzina prison is very bad. Those, who have been there, know that, “The Black Stork” is a hard place. So, of course, he has been moved there by no coincidence.

What are we going to do? First of all, it is information. Human rights activists have not yet spoken about Eduard Palchys as a political prisoner. They need to see the materials of his criminal cases on the basis of which he is being prosecuted.

Three criminal cases have been initiated against him in total. The first of them is for the so-called “inciting ethnic hatred.” The second one is for alleged “pornography.” The third one is for violating the recognizance not to leave. All three, in my opinion, have been fabricated.

At the same time, perhaps, his fate is coins to exchange in some Belarusian-Russian negotiations. The main thrust of our efforts is to get human rights activists and European politicians recognize Eduard as a political prisoner.

If this is achieved, then Eduard has all the chances to be released before the “elections,” otherwise the guy will stay in prison. And the second: well-known Belarusians could stand bail for Palchys and pass the investigator a request to change the preventive measure, so that he can be released on pledge not to leave the city. Eduard Palchys is facing up to 5 years in prison. Meanwhile, his online resource keeps functioning.
