Zaika: Only Ministers And “Deputies” Here Earn More Than Polish Drivers
LEANID ZAIKA

The Economist describes the conditions under which the average salary of Belarusians will be able to catch at least a “minimum salary” of Poles.

Next year the Polish Government intends to increase the minimum wage in the country for 15 euros – up to 1920 PLN (about 436 euros) before taxes.

Today a “minimum salary” in Belarus is 2.3 million rubles (a little more than 100 euros). Thus, the “minimum” of Poles is 4 times higher, than the Belarusian one and is about 120 euros more, than our average earnings.

Under what conditions can the gap be reduced? Salidarnasts asked the head of the analytical center “Strategy” Leanid Zaika about that.

– To date, Belarusian ministers and “deputies” probably earn more than Polish bus drivers.

With regard to comparable professions – the builders, sellers in shops or bankers – the salary is determined by the value of labor productivity in the country. In Poland it is higher, there are no large state-owned enterprises, which are economically insecure and financially untenable, like in Belarus.

There has to be the development of small, medium business to pay up. It is necessary to restructure the major state-owned enterprises. The prospect is there, but I personally do not see today the social forces, the intelligence, that would be able to accomplish it, – the economist said.
