Conrad Pavlik: Complex Issues Are Best Resolved In Quiet Diplomats’ Offices

The process of solving problematic issues between Belarus and Poland will not be easy.

On June 15, such an opinion was expressed by the new Ambassador of Poland to Belarus Conrad Pavlik at his first press conference in Minsk.

“We are trying to discuss all the issues right now. As for the details, of course, this will not be an easy process, and it's understandable. We have a lot of work. Perhaps we will not be able to solve all the questions, but we should still try to find some solution, some kind of compromise to at least part of them,” – the diplomat said, according to BelaPAN.

According to him, there are several areas, in which the problematic issues have accumulated, and they should be resolved immediately. “This is the historic dialogue, the Polish diaspora issues, as well as the local border traffic issue, with which we have already been stuck for six years, – Conrad Pavlik listed. – These are areas where there are a lot of questions, and it will be difficult to say at once, that there’s progress.”

At the same time the ambassador believes, there are areas, where the parties haven’t worked that much so far. “It’s about the border and the cross-border cooperation. I very much appreciate the willingness to work here, and quickly solve the existing issues,” – Pavlik said.

According to the head of the Polish diplomatic mission, he holds to an opinion that the solution to any problem must begin with the details. “I think that we should start with the details to reach the foundation of the issue. I want to work on these details, because without it we cannot move forward,” – he said.

Answering BelaPAN’s question, how Poland sees the solution of the Polish minority problems in Belarus, Conrad Pavlik said: “Complex issues are best resolved in quiet diplomats’ offices. The situation in this regard is not very simple, it applies to the Union of Poles in Belarus, to the Polish language educational issues. But I think what we need here is to stay calm and wise, keep the peace, rather than talk to the media about how we want to work."
