"Revival" of Villages May Destroy Business

"Revival" of Villages May Destroy Business

At the "All-Belarusian Assembly" Aliaksandr Lukashenka offered to owner of Conte Spa Valyantsin Baiko to revive villages.

The president told that he relied on "prominent people" who could support unpromising villages. He is also going to offer native villages to businessmen.

- There are a lot of them. He was born an unpromising village. It will cost him peanuts to revive it. The owner of Conte Spa is sitting opposite. If he has such a village there, I will directly ask him to revive his house there, Lukashenka stated. - He can give an opportunity for able-bodied people to be helpful. He will pay salaries.

Zautra Tvaie Krainy wonders whether businessmen are going to respond to the request of the ruler.

Leanid Zaika: "Businessmen turn to bankruptcy and the village will not survive"

Leanid Zaika, head of the Strategy analytical centre, believes that such initiative does not promote neither a city not a village.

- Lukashenka's initiative is based on involvement of active businessmen in revival of a village. It sounds romantic. Those businessmen who were born in villages will go to Paris, Berlin, Prague. There are social elevators: they should go higher. Only those who've failed will return.

If unpromising villages become the case of businessmen, then both businessmen and villages fail, the economist believes.

-Can you imagine that the President of the United States has sent someone to restore village Rothschild or Rockefeller? Leanid Zaika speaks ironically.
