Vadzim Baiko has been under medical supervision since his birthday, his health is deteriorating day by day.

Minsker Vadzim Baiko, who was arrested on the so-called “anti-fascists’ case” three months ago, complains that he is not given the necessary medical treatment in the remand prison. He has been under medical supervision with a diagnosis of hemangioma (a benign tumor). And without medical supervision his health is deteriorating day by day.

Anastasia Laiko, a lawyer of the closed by authorities human rights center Viasna, told BelaPAN about that.

“He regularly underwent medical testing out of prison and took medicine. He has had three operations, – the human rights activist said. – In the jail №1 in Minsk, where he has been kept for the last few months, he has been denied medical examination and provision of essential drugs. They say that since he is on trial, nobody will take him to hospital. He complains that he cannot fall asleep because of the pain, his hand goes numb. He fears that a cancer might develop. But the remand prison staff, including the management, are ignoring all his requests.”

The Interior Ministry Penitentiary Department refused to comment on the situation.

We remind that Vadzim Baiko was arrested on March 22, 2016. He and two of his anti-fascist movement brothers-in-arms are accused of malicious hooliganism (Part 3, Article 339 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, the young people took part in the fight, which took place at the bus stop “Supermarket” in Nestsiarau Street on June 29, 2014. The parties to the conflict fractured a pane of glass in a trolley-bus and sprayed gas. The damage is Br 280 thousand rubles.

After Vadzim Baiko, Dzmitry Tsehanovich and Illia Valavik’s arrest, antifascists made a statement in connection with the political motivation of the arrest.

According to official representative of the Minsk Investigative Committee Aliaksei Klimovich, the investigation is ongoing.
