Critical Mass Activist To Be Kept In Remand Prison For One More Month

Dzmitry Palienka is to be under investigation until July 29.

The Investigative Committee of the Central district of Minsk has extended the term of investigation for one more months as officers have not been able to organise a number of measures of investigation. Among other things, confrontation with the Critical Mass activist Dzmitry Palienka, Stanislau Kanavalau and traffic policemen who stopped the cyclist during the Critical Mass have not been held, the human rights centre Viasna reports.

Besides, it is known that not all letters from Dzmitry are received outside the prison.

We remind that a brutal detention of bicyclists, participants of the Critical Mass, took place on April 29 in the evening. As a result of brutal actions of riot policemen 6 persons were detained. They were harshly beaten up, taken to a police department of the Central district. Later four of them signed reports about violation of traffic rules by them and resisting arrest by policemen and traffic policemen, while criminal cases were opened against two of them on charges relating Article 364 of the Criminal Code.

On May in the evening the detained Dzmitry Palienka was served charges. At the moment he is kept in the remand prison №1.
