Belarusian Salaries Gone Back To Level Of 1991

In May the average Belarusian got 718 rubles with due account for the redenomination.

The very same average Belarusian got 711 rubles in November 1991. Since then the Belarusian ruble has “gathered zeros” and “tossed zeros away,” Radio Svaboda informs.

The average salary in dollars has been growing not so vigorously, as in rubles – the Belarusian ruble has been intermittently depreciating against foreign currencies, except for the period of stability (and foreign debt growth) in 2001-2008. The “promised” average salary of $ 500 was reached only once at the end of 2010, today the average Belarusian gets 360-370 dollars.

The Belarusian ruble did not emerge as soon as Belarus became independent, it happened in mid-1992. And then it was officially considered equivalent to 10 Soviet rubles.

At present, the exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble against the US dollar amounts to 200,053,000 without taking into account the redenominations.

It’s 2 BYN in terms of new money.
