Activists In Baranavichy Defend Picket Under White-Red-White Flag

The guard of the “Karona” shopping center demanded the activists should ask permission for conducting a picket from his bosses, or stop the action.

The guard service of the “Karona” shopping center in Baranavichy disliked the picket for collecting signatures in support of nomination of Tatsiana Malashchanka, the activist of the steering committee for creating the party “Belarusian Christian Democracy”.

“The head of the guards shift demanded we should either ask permission for conducting the picket from his bosses or leave the territory,” – participant of the picket, member of Tatsiana Malashchanka’s initiative group Mikalaj Padhaiski has told Radio Racyja.

“We said we needed no extra permit, according to the legislation. There was an argument. The guard called the police. Everyone made phone calls, trying to figure something out. In the end they found out we were right and no one had a right to chase us away. We continued our picket. The policeman took our side. The guard quietly left,” – the activist has told.

According to human rights defender Aliaksandr Vaitseshyk, the policeman who was there during the incident, behaved calmly and politely, unlike the head of the guard service.
