Even the clothes of an opposition candidate was censored by the Belarusian Television (BT).

Television broadcasted speeches of candidates for parliament in some of the districts of Homel region on August 16. Among them – a speech of the UCP activist Uladzimir Niapomniashchykh, who is running for the Homel Jubilee district №31.

He came to the speech record wearing his “trademark” t-shirt, well known to Homel dwellers, with a print “For Belarus without Lukashenka”. But on television only the upper part of the shirt could be seen, and the bottom of it was covered with a still-plate with the name of the candidate. So the slogan on the shirt was seen as just “For Belarus”, HRC “Viasna” reports.

Let us remind that during the election campaign of 2012, the speech of the candidate Uladzimir Niapomniashchykh wearing the same t-shirt wasn’t let on the air, and he was required to change the clothes during the recording the speech. Later, during the repeated elections in the district, the commission refused to accept his photo for a poster because the activist, again, was photographed in the same t-shirt with the slogan “For Belarus without Lukashenka”.

This time Uladzimir Niapomniashchykh addressed the audience with the words: “Hello, the so-called voters. So-called because there are no real elections in Belarus.” Further in his speech he spoke about the UCP program and urged the voters to become observers and to contact him or the party office at Polesskaya, 52 for this purpose. The activist ended his speech with the words “For Belarus without Lukashenka!”, “Long Live Belarus - Live forever!”

Other candidates also had their speeches on TV that evening. The former head of the regional department of KGB Ivan Korzh, the activist of the Left Party “Fair World” Aliaksandr Sukharuchanka and the candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party Aleh Danskikh are running for the same district as Niapomniashchykh.
