Lithuania and Latvia should join efforts in response to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and to achieve transparency of the Belarusian NPP construction.

Lithuania hopes for close cooperation with Latvia to achieve guarantees of security at the Belarusian NPP, which is under construction in Astravets, as well as to respond to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, says Lithuania’s Ambassador Artūras Žukauskas, who is starting his work in Latvia, writes delfi.lt.

The Ambassador formulated this position, having handed his credentials to President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis.

“Actively cooperating both in the Baltic Sea region and in the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, handling security of our region and the whole Europe, we should act teamwise and take all the possible measures in response to Russia’s aggression with regard to Ukraine, as well as to achieve the guarantees of security and transparency at the Belarusian NPP construction,” - the Lithuanian Ambassador has said.

Žukauskas started diplomatic service in 2003, he was an Ambassador in China, Greece and Azerbaijan. He replaced Ričardas Degutis at the position of the head of the diplomatic mission in Riga.
