Woman, Whose Apartment Was Mistakenly Stormed By Police: Now I Know Cost Of Clean Streets

The police almost knocked out the door to the apartment of a woman, intimidated her with handcuffs, and then it turned out that the law enforcement officers stormed a wrong apartment.

In Minsk, police officers stormed an apartment in Peramozhtsau Avenue, rented by a family of Ukrainian citizens. By mistake, as it appeared later. Natalia Kukoba wrote about that on her Facebook page, Radio Svaboda reports.

“A doorbell rings at 10:29, I see a face of an unknown man on the screen a house intercom and hear a rough voice. The police.

I tell in the house intercom: “I’m not going to open the door because I am alone in the apartment and I can hear that you are not alone. So, show your identification documents to the camera, I will call to the police and check if this really you are.” I have not had time to finish my speech, when few feet began to knock out the thick armored doors.

The neighbors let them in the vestibule, the house is extremely elite. They were very worried when someone did not lock the door to the vestibule. Video surveillance, apartments at 300-400 thousand dollars, presidential palace in front of the building.

I asked them to voice the reasons for such behavior, but the police officers continued to knock out the doors. With trembling lips I asked them to clarify what was the reason. I am a citizen of other country and I am not aware that one can knock out the door without voicing the reasons. The neighbors began to shout that that really was the police officers. And I accepted that statement, because they would have knocked out the doors anyway. I was pushed in and they entered.”

While three police officers were knocking out the door, Natalia managed to call her husband. Then the intruders seized the phone from housewife, sat at the table in the living room to write some papers.

Then Natalia told:

“I was in a T-shirt with Stewie Griffin and in socks, I didn’t quiet down and kept demanding to voice the reasons, I spoke about my civil rights, demanded to show their identification documents from a closer distance than one meter as I have weak sight.

I asked my neighbors, how could they be silent when it was an absolutely illegal invasion into my home. The same thing can happen to them tomorrow. What are you the witness of? Go and call the police, how you can allow this happen, it is your country.

They started to write something, asked me to get dressed, I refused because I did not trust them or my neighbors. I am not going to leave them alone.”

They didn’t let Natalia to call the police. The woman demanded that the police officers took no actions until the arrival of Eugene (her husband), a lawyer, a representative of the consulate, the owner of the apartment.

“One of them reminded of the handcuffs, the second smiled, imagining how I would keep them, the third one, who was making the document for the search, said: “Stop, what Zhenya? Who lives here?”

Then they deigned to show me a printed photo of the criminal. I did not know who it was.

It appeared to be a mistake. One minute before the sending me to a detention center and turning the apartment upside down, they had not even asked me to show my identification documents.

Zhenya had arrived and talked with them with a straight face, I could finally burst into tears,” – Natalia said.

At last, the police officers took a look at the passports of Eugene and Natalia, the lease agreement. Then the police officers apologized and left the apartment.

“Now I'm not so sarcastic about the news about the arrest of a doctor. As it turned out, the wrong doctor.

Now I know the cost of clean streets and the police state. And, moreover, now I'm not so hurt by an inside sheep that lives in every Belarusian, who if not indifferent or “on a safe side”, then begins to flirt rather than hit.

Even I looked ridiculous with all my knowledge of codes, rights...”

Natalia is going to appeal against the intrusion of the police officers into the apartment.
