Minister Of Education: “Our Teachers Are Just Fascinating”

Mikhail Zhuraukou continues to ignore the problems of education.

This year, for the first time in recent years, there have been enough people to fill budget places in high schools. Education Minister Mikhail Zhuraukou said that on “The Main Air” TV program on Belarus 1.

“This year we have no problems with getting enough students, the competition to get a teacher’s diploma has increased, the average score in some departments is up to 300 and above. Hopefully, the profession prestige is growing,” – tut.by quotes the official.

Zhuraukou also thanked the teachers for training Olympiad participants, noting that Belarus has established a kind of a national record this year, having received 42 medals at international Olympiads in various academic disciplines. “There will be a few more,” – the Minister said.

“Our children are very talented, our teachers are just fascinating. Our school education system demonstrates, that it is good and allows to prepare not just specialists, but very special talents, who can fulfil very challenging tasks,” – Zhuraukou said.

Assessing preparations for the new school year, the minister said there wasn’t an aim to increase the number of new schools – there had been opened only two, but many schools had been redecorated. “In addition, we have launched a project with the International Monetary Fund on redecorating and complete equipping of small schools in small regional centers, rural schools. It includes WiFi, and special gadgets for training,” – he said. This year, forty such schools have been prepared.

Mikhail Zhuraukou also brought to the studio one of the new basic textbooks – a textbook on the Belarusian history for the sixth year. “It is much smaller, than it used to be, it is very colorful, almost every page contains links to electronic resources,” – the Minister said.
