Hrodna Region Dwellers Were Told About Local Border Traffic With Poland And Lithuania

Activists visited Vaukavysk, Berastovitsa, Svislach, Shchuchyn and Masty.

Meetings with Hrodna region residents concerning the introduction of local border traffic (LBT) between Belarus and Poland, Belarus and Lithuania were held in Hrodna region, the press service of the Alliance “Civil Hrodna Region” said to the website charter97.org.

Activists explained to the residents of the borderland how the LBT would be applied for the citizens of Belarus, and how they would be able to travel to Poland and Lithuania without visas, after the ratification of the relevant treaties with Poland and Lithuania.

During the meetings, social activists were handing out colorful leaflets about the LBT to the people, attracting the passers-by with the kids with balloons bearing the logo of the LBT campaign, encouraging the residents to actively participate in the information campaign, responding to the citizens’ questions about how it would be possible to travel to Poland and Lithuania without a visa during 5 years, for just 20 euros.

We cite to the residents the Belarus and Latvia LBT treaty as an example, as well as the experience of our neighbors in Kaliningrad region of Russia and Ukraine, which have had treaties with Poland for several years. I am convinced that the introduction of the LBT with Poland and Lithuania will give rein to development of the local tourism and entrepreneurship,” – “Civil Hrodna Region” alliance coordinator Vasil Klimovich commented on this campaign.

“Vaulkavysk and Schuchyn residents generally assess positively the introduction of the local border traffic with Poland and Lithuania, but some people are concerned, as the queues at border crossings might become longer. They are visa owners, who often go to the neighbors. We are convinced that the introduction of the LBT with Poland and Lithuania will give an impetus to further development of Hrodna region, for example there are enough agro farms that could take in foreign guests. The introduction of the LBT treaties with Lithuania and Poland will increase the cultural, human, family, and business contacts with our neighbors. We invite Hrodna frontier residents to act in this direction, to send appeals to the authorities, to strive for the introduction of the agreement with Poland and Lithuania,” – “Civil Hrodna Region” alliance activist Yauhen Skrabutan said.
