Another raise of the retirement age is a crime against the people.

Last week, it became known that the International Monetary Fund persistently recommended that the Belarusian authorities should continue pension reforms. Among the measures suggested by the experts there was gradual raise of the retirement age threshold up to 65 years for both men and women, informs the website praca-by.info.

How do the leaders of the independent trade unions assess such recommendation?

Henadz Fiadynich, the Chairman of the Trade Union of Workers of the Radio-Electronic Industry:

– The people have not yet realized what the previous raise of the retirement age would lead to, and they want to raise it again. Instead of this, it would be better to hold a research on how many people in our country did not survive till the pension. I think that raising of the retirement age up to 65 years in the Chernobyl zone of Belarus would be a crime against the people.

Moreover, what attracts the attention is the fact that when they raise the retirement age they do not promise the people their pensions will be at the level of an average salary. I believe pensioners should receive at least $ 400.

The government which would seriously consider another raise of the retirement age must resign instead of working against their own people.

Mikhail Kavalkou, the Chairman of the Free Belarusian Trade Union:

– We stood against the recent raise of the retirement age for three years, let alone the new raiser. Certain conditions should be created before taking such step: to increase the lifespans of the Belarusian citizens to the European level. If they dare to take such anti-people measure as raising the retirement age to 65 years, there will be practically no pensioners left in our country.

Aliaksandr Bukhvostau, the Chairman of the Free Trade Union of Metallurgic Workers:

– If they raise the retirement age again there will be no one to pay pensions to. I may be exaggerating but I happened to visit a cemetery recently and paid attention that the men who were buried there had not outlived the age of 60 years old.
