Belarus losing 12 million euro from eurosanctions

According to the European Commission, annual losses of Belarus caused by its expulsion from the General System of preferences of the European Union will make about 12 million euro. The representative of Eurocommission has declared in particular: We have received various information on the prospective losses. Even the sum of 300 million euro was mentioned. According to our data, annual losses of Belarus will make about 12 million euro, i.e. about 0,4 % of the total Belarusian export to the European Union.

Criminal case against Dashkevich was brought 14 August

Aliaksandr Halieu, lawyer of political prisoner Zmiter Dashkevich has known that new criminal case against his client was brought as long ago as 14 August. Aliaksandr Halieu says that he phoned interrogator and he assured Aleksandr that no case was brought.

An opposition activist in Rechytsa, Homyel region, has been jailed for six days by a district judges decision viewed as a move to isolate him for the period of a national end-of-harvest festival, Dazhynki 2007, hosted by the city on September 21 and 22.

Obscenities case against opposition youth sent back for revision

President of PACE: Dialog with Belarus is impossible without discharge of political prisoners

President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) René van der Linden declared that Europe is ready to start up a dialog with the Belarusian authorities again. But the process is impossible to begin without the concrete positive steps taken by Belarusian side, and particularly without the discharge of those people who considered to be political prisoners, - President of PACE stressed.

The Belarusian Free Theater still stages plays despite the detentions of all viewers and actors which were held recently during Edward Bonds play Eleven Vests. The troupe discusses new performances, international tours and plans to get the prestigious Europes Award. The actors of the Free Theater are going to take part in the European March on October 14. We are a European theater and we cant see any other alternatives to the European route of Belarus. Of course the entire troupe of the Free Theater will come to the European March to stand with those who share our views. We will be granted Europes major theatrical award Europes Award in April 2008 in Salonika. And there we want to tell our European colleagues, there is no more underground culture in our country, no more dictatorship in Europe, Mikola Khalezin told Charter97. Authorities responsible for arrests on European Marchs Eve

Democratic activist, father of two children Leanid Navitski was sentenced today to 10 nights of arrest by the Partisansky district court of Minsk. The activist was detained 21 September on a charge of organization of the European March. After the detention, 100 flags of the European Union and informational materials with the symbols of Europe were confiscated. I was leaving my flat when the people in civvies came to me. They introduced themselves as the KGB agents and enter the flat under pretence of looking for illegal inhabitants. They call for a district militia officer, a group of criminalists, witnesses. They didnt give a copy of the report, - Leanid Navitski said in the court-room.

Young activists Vital Tsihanovich and Alina Hladkaya are sentenced to 15 and 7 days of arrest respectively by the court of Partyzanski district of Minsk. Activists were arrested 22 August in the night. Having searched the young men militiamen found in their bags informational materials about the European Union.

Minsk militiamen support European March

An unusual performance could be seen in Minsk center in the evening 23 September. Approximately at 20.00 the people walking near Kastrychnickaya Square saw on one of the buildings a 6-meter blue poster with the image of the flag of the European Union and information about the beginning and place of holding of the European March. But the most interesting was the militiaman, running hither and thither on the roof.

Two buses with visitors of the rock-festival Right to Be Free which was to start 22 August in Lutsk, a Ukrainian city, were detained today in the night near Minsk. One bus was detained near town Dziarzhynsk, the other near Stoubtsy. Officers of the State Road Inspection stopped buses under the pretext of the supposed speed-limit breaking by the drivers. There were approximately 40 people in each bus.

One more criminal case against Zmitser Dashkevich?

One more criminal case is brought before the court against the political prisoner, leader of Malady Front (Young Front) Zmitser Dashkevich. He is indicted of refusal to attest, Article 402 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. As it became known to the pressroom of Charter97, Zmitser Dashkevich wrote about this in his letter to his friends. According to Zmitser Dashkevich, investigators of Shklou District Interior Department demanded Dashkevich to attest against a young activist Ivan Shyla, who was accused of activity on behalf of an unregistered organization.

Cases against European March closing the way to Europe for authorities

Democratic activist Leanid Navitski was guarded to the Partisansky district court of Minsk. Two activists Alina Gladkaya and Vital Tihanovich were guarded there with him. They were detained late at night on 21 September. The militiamen searched there bags and found the informational materials about the European March.

Around five thousand people participated in the rock festival Right to Be Free organized by Belarusians in the Ukrainian town Lutsk 22 September. The festival was accompanied by hardships: buses with the festival guests were detained at the exit from Belarus by the special regiment, thus the people were made to hitchhike or travel by electric train. It took the musicians hours to pass the customs and boarder guard control. But the festival was held and struck its target.

Democratic activist Leanid Navitsky is still kept at the Partisansky district militia department in Minsk. Lawyer Pavel Sapelka was not allowed to meet with the defendant. He was not brought to the court either.

Youth leader Andrei Kudin was detained today for distribution of the Vibar (Choice) newspaper reporting on the European March which is due 14 October in Minsk. The activist was guarded to the Partisansky district court of Minsk where Judge Mikalai Trubnikau sentenced him to 10 base rate penalties (Br 310 thousand). The judge concluded that the activist called people for participation in the unsanctioned action.

Minsk expects Moscow to decide on giving Belarus a stabilization loan, Prime Minister Syarhey Sidorski told reporters while touring the Minsk region on September 20. He noted that the presidents of Belarus and Russia had reached an agreement on such a loan.

Leader of the movement For Freedom Aliaksandr Milinkevich sent an invitation for the European March to chairman of the European Commission, chairman of the European Parliament and heads of the European states. We invite our friends to stay with us on this day of October 14 and we will be grateful for your solidarity and support. The majority of Belarusians look to Europe with hope and expects a normalization of our relations with the EU, it is said in the invitation.

Belarus may deny majority vote election system

Head of the Liberal Democratic Party Syargei Gaidukevich declared that he didnt exclude the future elections to be held on the proportional-majority basis. it is possible under coordination of certain external and internal factors, the deputy specified.
