Latvians learnt only from morning newspapers about the accident at the Vitebsk faecal collector, which burst, giving the way for faecal sewer to get drained into the Western Dvina river. Belarusian authorities never told their Latvian colleagues that 25 thousand cubic meters of shit is floating into their country through W.Dvina.

Independent newspapers "Nasha Svaboda", "Narodnaya Volya", "Rabochy" and a dozen other non-state editions, which used to get published in the private press "Magic", will no longer see light there after March 12. Today the leadership of the Minsk firm "Znamenye" from which "Magic" leased the printing machine, abrogated its contract with the publishing house.

Pavel Borodin will stay under lock in New York awaiting court hearing on his possible extradition to Switzerland. This decision was passed by judge Viktor Pokhorelsky at the court session, that took place March 9 in the Brooklyn Federal Court upon the request of Borodin`s defense. Having repeatedly petitioned the court, demanding that they release the "state secretary of Russia and Belarus" on bail, Borodin`s attorneys motivated their request by "special circumstances", according to which Borodin must execute his duties on the high post. However, at listening to both sides` arguments judge Pokhorelsky agreed with the position of the prosecution. By the way, defense presented to the jury the address of Alexander Lukashenko, confirming the importance of functions that Borodin fulfills, whereas the prosecutor noted that Washington does not consider Lukashenko a legitimate head of state and does not recognize the Russia-Belarus Union.

The United States insist that the Yugoslav government must by the end of March capture the country`s former president Slobodan Milosevic, reports NTV with a reference to "Interfax". In case this demand is left unsatisfied, Yugoslavia will be cut off from US financial aid.

New regulations on the order of transportation of goods across the Belarusian border for commercial purposes, entered into legal force on March 11. Under the approved provision, individuals who don`t pursuit any commercial goals, when getting their stuff out or into the country, may enjoy certain privileges in customs duties payment.

The size of the indebtedness of the Grodno region companies on the beginning of March constituted 1 bln. 571 mln. BLR. The State Committee for Control of the Grodno region claims that since February 1 the debt has grown twofold. 78% of the debt is to be cleared by state farms and 16% - by industrial enterprises.
