Sasha Has Grudge Against Michael and Retaliates Western Diplomats 11:08, 11/04/2001
Alexander Lukashenko ordered his henchmen not to invite US diplomats to the official receptions, where he`s present. Lukashenko voiced this his decision on April 10, while delivering his annual address before the national assembly.
The Belarusian ruler was enraged by the absence of US diplomats in the Government Palace, where he spoke on that day.
Lukashenko further noted that any ambassadors that skipped the thing must be prevented from attending official events in future. "All ambassadors, whom we invited and who failed to come, they must not be present at any state activities. You see, they want to show us that our parliament is not a parliament. If so, let them sit in their residences between four corners," - declared Lukashenko.
"Foreign security services manifest great interest these days to the Belarusian army. That has to do with its restructuring. We curtail the number of servicemen, making it twice as powerful as during the Soviet times," - he boasted.
Modernization of Belarusian troops is funded by the sales of weaponry, said Lukashenko. According to what he said "Russia purchases sophisticated Air Defense missile systems, means of radio-electronic combat and surveillance in order to secure peace in our country".
Out of these funds $5mln. was donated to sophisticate military jets. "We`ll make our army cheap, mobile, not requiring great manpower," - stressed Lukashenko.
Moreover, Lukashenko claimed that "Belarus is exposed to an intensive negative impact from outsiders, using all sort of gimmicks and tricks. Some foreign centers continue their joint efforts to exert great political and economic pressure on the official authorities with a view of transforming the state system of Belarus into one, which would be alien to our nation."
Lukashenko confessed that KGB chair Leonid Erin submits to him his weekly reports on the espionage activities of foreign residents, attempting to recruit Belarusian citizens. He called on Erin to check out the slightest signs of spying and interference into the country`s home affairs.
