Lukashenko-Masked Guy Bathed in Mogilev Fountain
11:15, 19/06/2001, ZUBR

Mogilev ZUBRs held June 17 their action “Lukashenko’s election campaign underway: time to choose” at the Bykhov marketplace. The theatrical performance involved 9 troupers, impersonating a pensioner, worker, student, villager, teacher, entrepreneur, drunkard, president and ZUBR activist.

In the meantime, the rest of ZUBR people were passing out “Nasha Svaboda” free issues. The crowds reacted quite enthusiastically to the activity and engaged in loud conversations with the masked folks. One elderly lady actually misinterpreted the sense of the action and began quite aggressively express her dissatisfaction with Lukashenko’s regime: “You are so many here, so kill me, but I won’t vote for him anyway,” – which made everybody laugh all the more.

Before the start of the action police apprehended at the Bykhovsky market a freelance correspondent of “Nasha Svaboda”. The detention was carried out by the criminal investigation department police officers. They accused the journalist of stealing a wallet from someone, who described the thief: ZUBR T-shirt and camouflage pants.

When the activists demanded explanations they finally managed to learn this: the “victim” of theft was drunk, while the real reason for the detention was too great a number of ZUBRs in one place. In 20 minutes’ time the young person was set free.

After the action’s implementation, ZUBRs moved to the downtown, where local youngsters usually hang out. At their arrival at the place, they launched a number of tournaments and quizzes, offering anyone to join them.

First competitors glued “Time to choose” stickers on a huge board and the one who did it most quickly was given a ZUBR T-shirt.

The second contest was about spray-painting a colorful ZUBR graffiti. The jury assessed both the speed and the quality of work. The winner received the same prize.

All of a sudden there showed up a sanatorium orderly in white garment and Lukashenko. The medic tried to outrun and catch Lukashenko, while the latter fled from him. Most of the public staked on the hospital assistant and were proved true. The gathered monies were sacrificed to the running away patient.

Totally exhausted after the race Lukashenko jumped into the fountain to cool down. However, he forgot it was no skating rink and thus started to drown. The crowds were shouting “drown him!” but the miracle saved the poor thing: the hospital orderly recalled their oath and got Lukashenko out of the water, adding that in autumn even a miracle won’t spare him. The action over, the youth was told that it is only the beginning and they will have to make a choice.
