Parties claim dispersing non-legitimate elective commissions :: Charter'97 :: News

Yesterday ten political parties of Belarus (that form the Inter-party Center) accepted the memorandum in which they the authorities for dispersing territorial elective commissions on the ground that they were formed illegally. The inter-party center made the conclusion that the system of elective commissions which was formed in Belarus contradicts not only Belarussian but the international law as well. This system gives enormous advantages to Lukashenko and simply excluded free and democratic elections.

Let us remind that the authorities have “launched” the mechanism of the falsification of the results of the presidential elections, having formulated the territorial elective commissions according to the lists prepared by the President Administration. From 600 members of different political parties only few people were able to get to elective commissions. At present, having formed the territorial elective commissions in this way the authorities are initiating the creation of commissions of a lower level - regional. According to the head of Inter-party Centre V.Sivchik “there are currently the lists of regional elective commissions and without legitimate territorial commissions it is difficult to take regional ones into consideration.”
