Potential presidential contenders protest against enacting the Decree N20 11:08, 28/06/2001

Presidential contenders critically assess the decree N20 enacted by the President. The decree runs: “A mandatory declaration of profits and property by the candidate to the President office as well as the profits of his close relatives – wife (husband), his parents and some other measures directed to the arranging of free and fair elections .” This decree is yet another proof that Lukashenko does not act in compliance with the existing legislation,- declared Semen Domash – one of the potential presidential contenders.

“We are not content with the conditions of business development in Belarus and we would like to see some fundamental changes in that sphere before we could embark on a full-fledged financial assistance.” – it was the reaction of Luka Barbone – the head of the Ukrainian and Belarussian departments of The World Bank. According to Luka Barbone in comparison with other countries (with the exception of South Korea) now in Belarus there are the most difficult conditions of registration of small and average businesses.

The Central committee of the Republic of Belarus on the elections and the arranging of republican referendums extended the statement in which the representatives of the committee explain the order of the collections of signatures in support of the potential presidential contenders. As it is stated in the document the statement appeared as the aftermath of the distortions by some Mass Media appropriate points of the Elective Code. 
“Homelavia” will have to pay for the death of pilots 11:05, 28/06/2001

Relatives of Homel pilots who disappeared almost three years ago in the region of Sri-Lanka sued the airport of “Homelavia”. The widow of the pilot Sergey Lisoivanov, the widow of the flight engineer Sergey Onoprienko and also the parents of the navigator Sergey Kozlov demanded the compensation of the moral damage. According to the newspaper “Vecherny Homel” the relatives of the missing pilots put the responsibility for the accident on the managerial staff of “Homelavia” which sent the crew to Sri-Lanka not warning them about local hostilities. Tamara Lisoivanova and Helene Onoprienko assessed the damage to 40 million rubles (for each), and the parents of Kozlov to 100 million rubles on aggregate. This civil sue was heard by Alexander Dedok the chairman of the Homel regional court. To his opinion the above-mentioned sums of compensation were too high so the sue was partially satisfied.

The Patriarch of All Russia has accomplished his visit to Belarus with a visiting together with Lukashenko the so-called monument of Friendship on the border of Belarus with Russia and the Ukraine. The Monument of Friendship was picked for delivering by Lukashenko two renewed great, solemn ensigns for the Temple of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The golden ensigns were made on the order of Lukashenko (they were made in Moscow and cost 100.000 dollars). They were brought to Belarus to after a while return to the capital of Russia. 
Increasing the “minimal salary” will not improve our living conditions 11:03, 28/06/2001

According to the calculations made by the Ministry of Labor the increase of the minimal salary from the 1st of June up to 7500 rubles will allow to rise the wages of budget employees approximately 24%. Actually this increase will remain on the paper only. Owing to the constant inflation rise, about 40% of the population will have material resources per one family member lower than the living minimum – in other words to live beyond the poverty line. 
On the warehouses of the Belarussian enterprises the stores of production grow in number 11:02, 28/06/2001

On the period of the 1st of June the stores of the output on the warehouses of the Belarussian enterprises reached 69,7% from the average monthly volume of production. For comparison: in May the store of production was 65,4%: in April - 60,3%; in March – 56,1%; in February – 52%. The highest figure was in January of the year 1999 (85,9%) when the industry experienced the aftermath of the Russian financial upheaval.

After a month’s break the cost of public utilities tariffs increased again. In June the housing payment (for technical maintenance) and the payment for elevators usage increased to 3,3%. The same increase influenced the tariffs for gas, cold water, sewerage, elimination of siftings, for cold water the increase totaled 35%. For Minsk residents the tariff for cold water and sewerage increased (in absolute figures) from 73,6 up to 76,1 ruble for a cubic meter, gas from 174,7 up to 180,5; liquidation of siftings 77,7 up to 80,26; elevator usage 89,3 up to 92,25 rubles per person. The cost of one gigacalory of heat energy – from 2,716.6 to 3,660,6 rubles.
