NEWS  Death Toll of Workers, Killed at the Job, Reaches 100 Over 6 Months 11:01, 11/07/2001, www.praca.by According to the statistics of the Committee for labor inspection of the Ministry of labor, over six months of this year 103 human casualties occurred at the working places. Although it is 16 deaths less than last year, the figure remains grave. Most lethal accidents occurred in Minsk city and region and Brest region. The nature of the tragic occurrences and their causes remain pretty much the same: unsatisfactory condition of working places, exploitation of defective machinery, equipment and devices. All in all, over the first half a year of 2001 there have been recorded around 170 thousand violations of labor legislation. 4755 functionaries were held accountable and fined 18,3mln rubles in total.
