A.Lukashenko once again accused the opposition and the head of the AMG OCSE mission Hans-Georg Wieck of their attempts to destabilize with the help of the West the pre-election situation in Belarus. According to the words of Lukashenko, the documents stating “what Hans-Georg Wieck and the West do in Belarus” soon will be published. Today “the massive blow on the structures of the executive powers – from the collective farm head to the president—is struck,”— he said.

PACE Delegation Pays Highest Attention to Human Rights Violations In Belarus

A representative delegation of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly arrived in Minsk on Tuesday. The main attention will be paid to the situation with human rights in the six months since their last visit, the head of the Parliamentary Assembly Political Committee, UK representative Terry Davis told to RIA “Novosti”.

Authorities Formed ‘Pocket’ Election Commissions Again

On forming constituency election commissions for the presidential elections “the authorities used the same principle, as by forming local election commissions: all the members were chosen by the authorities beforehand”, it was declared by the coordinator of the Inter-party Center for representatives’ nomination Vyacheslav Sivchik. According to his words, The Center was able to nominate twenty thousand of their representatives, but in result only an insignificant amount of requests was met. The Center is sure that the authorities had created the commissions that are convenient to them.

Colonel Alkaev Left Belarus

A former chief of the pre-trial detention center #1, who bore witness in the "scandalous cases" of missing (or murdered) persons, left Belarus. And not for summer holidays, although according to the official version Oleg Alkaev went to have a rest somewhere. On the same day when documents, submitted by V. Goncharik, that represent ‘top secret’, were to emerge in non-governmental newspapers, Oleg Alkaev left home early in the morning. Than he made a phone call to his wife, and told her not to worry and not to wait for him. He hasn’t been seen at home ever since…

Belarusian Authorities Do Not Allow OSCE Observers In

Five OSCE observers, who were to carry out monitoring of presidential elections in Belarus, were not allowed to enter the country. It is stated in the declaration of the Organization for democratic institutes and human rights of OSCE (ODIHR OSCE), published on Tuesdays by the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna. As pointed out the ODIHR director G. Studemann, “he is extremely disappointed by this ruling of Belarusian authorities”. The administration of OSCE believe that all the members of this organization, including Belarus, are to invite OSCE observers to all possible elections, especially presidential ones.

PACE Delegation Starts Its Visit To Minsk

From July 31 to August 3 the PACE delegation visits Minsk. As the Headquarter of European Counsel in Strasbourg informed, the aim of the visit is “examination of the current political situation in Belarus on the verge of the presidential elections scheduled for September 9”. The head of the PACE delegation is the English parliamentarian Terry Davis, the chairman of the commission of the Political Issues Assembly. The members of the mission include the Council of Europe rapporteur on human rights situation in Belarus Wolfgand Berendt, and a representative of the EC Human Rights Committee Cyril Svoboda.
