Even State Deputies Join Opposition
11:30, 08/08/2001

“Our country is badly pressed for time. We sense this very acutely: time is running away. At the turn of the new millennium the countries are racing a civilization sprint. Those, who don’t wish to be left out historically are quickly learning information technologies, direct to themselves financial flows, conquer positions at the exterior markets, develop in the society the spirit of creativity and business initiative. During the era of storming transformations, every wasted year leaves outsiders one decade behind. Wasted chances are the road to nowhere. To stand still means to put up with ongoing de-industrialization, decadence of agriculture, total misery and runaway from the country by most educated and talented folks,” – with such an open letter the “house of representatives” deputy Gennady Dylevsky addressed the future president on August 6. Following comes its curtailed text.

How Much Does “President” Lukashenko Cost?
11:06, 08/08/2001, Anatoly Lebedko, UCP leader, Vice-Speaker of the 13th Supreme Soviet

Officially, according to the income declaration, Lukashenko earns 538 thousand 400 Belarusian rubles a month. This sum includes anything from his monthly salary, which equals to 150 US dollars to the bonus money for long service, professionalism and, of course, intensive work. Someone can say: well, it’s not really much. However, if you take into consideration the confession of Ivan Titenkov, who stayed with Lukashenko shoulder to shoulder for almost six years, that president works no more than 3-4 hours a day, that payment seems more than relevant. Moreover, if you analyze the lifestyle, attributes, entourage and other integral components of Lukashenko’s life, one can easily notice that Lukashenko’s expenses don’t fit into his tax declaration. So where do the monies come from?
