KGB On Lookout for Terrorist Bombers 11:04, 10/08/2001
On August 9 the Slonim department of KGB summoned ZUBR activist Ales Masyuk. He received a subpoena without a distinct reason for the call. It appeared that Slonim KGB agents are looking for terrorists. Masyuk was interrogated by local KGB chief Oleg Lavrenko and ranking member Igor Rudakov. They inquired where the bloke was during the bomb attack on the Russian embassy in Minsk on May 31, what he knows about the occurrence and how he regards political extremism.
Previously they interrogated in a likewise manner Selyavichi villager Genrich Zasimovich, BPF member.
In Grodno KGB spoke on the matter with the “Pagonya” journalist Pavel Mozheiko. The paper published some two months ago a statement by a “Council of commanders of the Belarusian national self-defense” and a critical material about the inter-parliamentary session of the Russia-Belarus union, which took place in Grodno. The statement contained a warning to the Moscow and Minsk deputies.
KGB treats these publications as related to the blast at the Russian diplomatic compound. KGB inquired whether such a Council of commanders exists in reality or are there any people in Grodno who could throw a hand-grenade at the Russian embassy. The journalist considered the talk as an attempt to intimidate or even recruit him. By the way, for the above-mentioned publications the regional procuracy opened criminal proceedings against “Pagonya”.
