First Launches of Belarus-Russian Anti-Aircraft Missile System “Pechora-2” 11:11, 10/08/2001
On the Russian shooting ground Kapustin Yar they are getting ready for first launches of the modernized artillery complex “Pechora-2”, manufactured by the Russian-Belarusian interstate financial industrial group “Defensive systems”. According to the deputy president of “DS” Igor Meschan, “Pechora-2” is a mobile, highly effective zenith missile launcher, able of fulfilling combat tasks in the conditions of modern war.
BELTA correspondent was told by Meschan that the first shots will be made from the weapon in second half of August.
Various firms in Poland and Russia were busy modernizing the S-125 “Pechora”. However, the most successful in this regard was Russian-Belarusian corporation. Successful tests of the launcher were carried out at the shooting ground in the Leningrad region in December last year and February 2001. Now for the very first time the complex will be tested as one whole.
According to the specialists’ estimations, the potential volume of “Pechora’s” sophistication market encompasses over 35 countries in near and far abroad. The group has reached a contract on the shipment of the modernized complex to one of the Arabic countries.
