Belarusian TV Accused of Libel Once Again 11:07, 14/08/2001
Member of the United Civil Party from Borisov, Valery Kabak, forwarded a complaint to the human right defending organization “Vyasna” and brought a suit against Belarusian TV and Alexander Zimovsky personally , the presenter of “Resonance” program, on August 13. A similar suit was brought by the United Civil Party and its leader Anatoly Lebegdko. The program “Resonance” aired report as one of the United Civil Party members from Borisov allegedly promised three its Borisov members to assist in obtaining a political refuge in one of the western countries for the reward equal to 500 USD.
Three surnames were named: Mikhail and Svetlana Kosobutsky, and Valery Kabak. In his address to the human rights defending organization “Vyasna” V.Kabak writes: “The information about me on Belarusian TV, reportedly the UCP helps to emigrate for political motives, is a libel. I have nothing in common with it.”
Valery Kabak said that he was abroad before and he had no intention to stay there. In his comments to BelaPAN news agency he said that he shocked by the impudence of the Belarusian TV that told a untruthful story about him. “This TV channel is made on the money of the taxpayers, but the opposition members do not have even an hour a day on it,- he said. - The same words and ideas are repeated all the time. With the help of such stories the population is deceived and is turned into zombies”.
