Media Monitoring During Presidential Poll in Belarus 11:05, 16/08/2001
The European mass media institute will carry out its media monitoring mission in course of the presidential elections in Belarus. The mission’s activities are financed by the European Commission within the framework of the project “Democratic and human rights initiatives”.
Starting from 1992 the European institute of mass media launched over 40 similar missions during the parliamentary and presidential elections in Eastern and Central Europe, and also in the former Soviet Union.
BAJ reports that the main purpose of the mission is to analyze the balanced nature of how the medias’ highlight the political aspects of pre-election campaign.
They will be applying both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis. The mission’s delegation will be led by Mr.MacCormac (head of the CIS projects department). The delegation will consist of Ludmila fon Berg (program administrator from Germany), professor Ron Hill (British political expert from the University of Dublin) and professor Stephan White (Irish political expert, Glasgow University).
