6% Polled Minsk Residents Set for Early Voting 11:12, 21/08/2001
Seventy-two percent of the 500 Minsk residents interviewed by BelaPAN between August 14 and 17 indicated that they would go to the polls in the main voting day of the first round of Belarus, 2001 presidential election (September 9). Six percent said that they would exercise their right to early voting, and 22 percent - against 26 percent three weeks before - were undecided.
Belarus, opposition leaders strongly recommend that voters cast their ballot only on September 9, not during the five-day early voting period (from September 4 to 8), to reduce authorities, chance of rigging the election.
Seventy-nine percent of the interviewed expressed their readiness to take part in the election whereas 13 percent indicated that they would not vote against 11 percent at the end of July. Eight percent found it difficult to give a definite reply.
