Goncharik’s Encounter with Voters Treated As Illicit Rally 11:14, 21/08/2001
Ahead of the unique candidate Vladimir Goncharik’s meeting with the Mogilev voters, deputy chair of his staff for Mogilev region Alexander Silkov was summoned to procuracy and warned that the meeting will be considered an “unsanctioned assembly” and treated as such. The gathered folks were recorded on video by police operatives.
However, the law-enforcers behaved quite peacefully, claiming that it is no business of theirs and let the Central Electoral Commission deal with all violations. According to Goncharik’s headquarters people, the junior officers declined to execute the order and disperse the meeting by force.
Mogilev residents posed numerous questions to the candidate from wide public coalition: about the economic situation, whereabouts of the missing politicians and plausibility of elections falsification. Vladimir Goncharik also rendezvoused with the region’s trade union activists and workers of local factories. All of them were troubled by same issues. Any objections by Lukashenko’s supporters were immediately silenced by the rest.
