Most Minskers Readying to Vote for Vladimir Goncharik 11:15, 28/08/2001
38% of Minsk voters intend to cast their votes for Vladimir Goncharik, 32% - for Alexander Lukashenko and 8% - for Sergei Gaidukevich. Such were the data received during the opinion poll, conducted August 23-26 by BelaPAN research laboratory Zerkalo. They surveyed 500 residents of Minsk, aged 18 and over. 12% of Minskers may vote against all candidates, while 10% couldn’t say for sure.
Given there were only two names in the ballot sheet – that of Goncharik and Lukashenko – the trade union leader could well count on support of 44% voters, while the incumbent – on 32%. 17% of respondents can vote against both, while 7% of polled Minsk folks can’t say for certain at this point.
It’s worth noting that over the period of Lukashenko’s grip on power his rating has been for the first time overshadowed by that of another politician – Vladimir Goncharik.
