US embassy in Belarus protested to the Belarusian authorities over the detention and banishment of the US citizen Robert Filding, a representative of American trade unions. “Having undertaken such an extreme step, which is the detention and persecution of the American national, with the apparently one goal to create propagandistic material for the state-controlled Belarusian television, the authorities called into question the sincerity of their intentions,” – reads the embassy’s statement.

Romanian representative, now heading the OSCE PA Adrian Severin will come to Minsk to watch the court of the voting process, to be held September 9. OSCE mission in Minsk declared that the authorities unleashed unprecedented restrictions against the activity of the observers, reports Radio Svaboda. Before the termination of the ballot they aren’t supposed to host press-conferences. On the ballot date they are forbidden to even near the tables, at which the voters are handed in ballot sheets. They are also rid of the opportunity to eye the tabulation of votes procedure. All 40 observers come from member-states of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, headed by Adrian Severin.

Grodno city hall forbade to hold on August 30 in the Lenin’s square a meeting between the runner for the president from wide public coalition Vladimir Goncharik and the city residents. Local Goncharik’s headquarters reports that the authorities were guided by the presidential decree, regulating the order of mass assemblies.

Human rights organization “Amnesty International” called upon the authorities of the European countries to apply maximum efforts to clarify the destiny of thousands of people, who are still unaccounted for. According to the human rights experts, most folks are kidnapped in disputed territories, where combat actions break out. For instance, the whereabouts of 20,000 something Bosnians is yet to be established. Over a thousand peaceful residents went missing in Chechnya, about the same number in Croatia – these are mostly Serbs. Moreover, the AI report lists the cases of opposition people’s disappearances in Belarus and Uzbekistan, as well as about the incident around the disappearance of the Ukrainian reporter Georgy Gongadze.

The meeting of the single democratic candidate to the presidential post Vladimir Goncharik and of his representatives with the voters of Minsk will take place on September 2 in Oktyabrskaya Square from 12 to 3 p.m. The single candidate has informed the Minsk city electoral commission and Minsk executive committee about this assembly. According to law, candidate Vladimir Goncharik asked these state institutions for “assistance in arranging the meeting and informing the public about it through mass media.”

On August 28 more than six ZUBRs lined up in the center of Mogilyov as a live chain. The young held pictures of Gennady Karpenko, Yuri Zakharenko, Viktor Gonchar, Anatoly Krasovsky and Dmitry Zavadsky. Police officers nearby called for reinforcement. The policemen pushed the guys and demanded to part, but their attempts were fruitless. The faces of the missing still looked at the passers-by.

Minsk resident Nikolai eye-witnessed the following scene. Near the Pushkinskaya tube station a group of young ladies aged 14-20 were tearing off Goncharik’s posters from a specially designed agitation stand. Instead they pasted BPSM stickers (Belarusian Patriotic Youth Union). The female patriots rudely responded to any remarks by the pedestrians. In close proximity Nikolai say a guy, who electioneered for Lukashenko and passed out costly notepads with Lukashenko’s portrait.
