Justice Ministry and Procuracy Interested in Observers’ Lists 11:18, 07/09/2001
Representatives of the Justice Ministry and state procuracy informed the member of the board of “Lev Sapega Foundation ltd.” Miroslav Kobasa (also a coordinator of the parallel vote count system) about their intentions to check out the activities of his organization. In reality, though, they are interested in a different thing, namely the lists of observers, nominated by the organization.
Kobasa refused to unlock the organization’s office and present the lists of observers, claiming that he’s not entitled to do it (only a chair could do it according to the organization’s Statute). In response, the procuracy officials said that they would file a lawsuit against him over his refusal to present to them the lists of observers, while the latter would be denied access to the polling stations. Kobasa once again told them that it’s not that he refuses to show them the data, but that he has no authority for that.
When there showed up first reporters near the office, the representatives of the Justice Ministry and procuracy departed, having said nothing about the possible follow-up. Kobasa believes that in the near future the story will resume.
