OSCE AMG Mission Has Nothing to Do in Belarus, Says Lukashenko 11:06, 11/09/2001
According to Alexander Lukashenko, the OSCE Advisory-Monitoring Group has nothing more to do in Belarus. He said this during his September 10 encounter with the journalists in the Republic’s Palace. As you remember, previously Alexander Lukashenko threatened to “throw out” OSCE AMG head ambassador Hans-Georg Wieck right after the ballot.
Lukashenko said that OSCE AMG was supposed under its mandate to “monitor and counsel”, as well as assist in making up proper electoral legislation. After the parliamentary and presidential elections took place in Belarus, there’s nothing that OSCE AMG can do here.
At the same time Lukashenko pointed out that if “Mr.Wieck finds application of his forces in Belarus, we will welcome that”. “But we would like him to work in positive direction, being a friend of our nation and reckoning with the nation’s interests,” – said Lukashenko.
