Recently in the Pervomaysky Court in Minsk a hearing of the case initiated by the UCP leader Anatoly Lebedko who brought an action against Belarusian TV and Radio company and a permanent author of its program “Secret Springs Of Politics”, Yuri Azaryonok, was to be held. In his deceitful program, rousing xenophobia, he declared that after one of his trips to Poland Lebedko received 8.5 thousand USD. The author has given not a single proof, as a result he was summoned to court. But the representatives of the Belarusian TV, who arrived to court, said that Azaryonok is having a month’s leave outside Belarus.

A new Internet source www.uberalles.org appeared in the net recently, on September 30. The site is dedicated to the subject of disappearance of prominent persons in Belarus. Initially the first page attracts attention: white letters against black background “Where?” transform into the words Gonchar, Zakharenko, Majsenya, Karpenko, Krasovsky. The letters turn red and fade away. Then the words show: “Who’s next?” The latest text on this site was placed on September 11. It’s title is “This Site to Live For 5 Years As Minimum”. 
Inflation’s Pace In Belarus Goes Up 11:11, 24/09/2001

According to the data of the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis, the prices for consumers’ goods rose by 0.8 percent in the first weeks of September (0.4 percent every week). In the meantime the prices in August rose by 0.5 % during the first two weeks, and by 0.8 percent for the whole month. The consumers’ prices have risen by 26.4 percent this year (by 73.6 percent for the same period of the last year, and by 4 percent in the first two weeks of the last September). 
Court’s Hearing of Zavadsky’s Case Starts On October 24 11:10, 24/09/2001

The Minsk Regional Court determined the date of the court hearing on the case of the Russian public television cameraman, Dmitry Zavadsky’s, disappearance. As the chairman of the court, Georgy Khomich, said to the Interfax agency, the first hearing starts on October, 24. As stated by Khomich, it will be a closed court. He also noted that the court hearings would be carried out in one of the chambers of the Supreme Court of Belarus. It is determined by the fact that the building of the Minsk regional court has no capacious rooms, according to Khomich. 
Independent Journalist Beaten Up In Schklov 11:09, 24/09/2001

An editor of the independent newspaper “Schklouskiya Naviny” Alexander Scherbak was beaten by two unknown men in the evening of September 22. Two powerfully built guys in black leather jackets wordlessly beaten up an editor and then left without a word and without taking any of his possessions. They beat him so cruelly that he lost consciousness for some time. It is worth saying that a criminal case is brought up against Alexander Scherbak on the eve of presidential election. He is accused of anti-governmental actions together with ZUBR activists. The local police officers searched his flat recently and confiscated all the equipment of the editorial office.

The executives of the private printing-houses in Belarus continue to act as censors, the Belarussian Association of Journalists informs. So, because of the private Minsk printing-house “Plutos-Market” the non-state newspaper “Zhoda” was not published in time. 
BELARUS: CPJ DENOUNCES HARASSMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEDIA DURING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 11:07, 24/09/2001

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) denounces the Belarusian government`s crackdown on independent media outlets during the September 9 presidential election. Authorities blocked access to the Internet sites of several independent media outlets that were posting up-to-the-minute reports of violations at polling stations, local press and election monitors reported. "Free and democratic elections require the unfettered circulation of ideas and exchange of information," said CPJ executive director Ann Cooper. "By censoring and harassing the independent and opposition media during this election, President Lukashenko has once again shown his contempt for democracy." 
Supreme Soviet Delegation to Take Floor At PACE Session 11:06, 24/09/2001

The 13th Supreme Soviet is leaving for Strasbourg for the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council. The delegation will consist of tree persons. The Supreme Soviet deputies are planning to participate in the work of political groups, to meet the responsible persons. “It is very important that the voice of the Supreme Soviet as well as political opposition were heard in Strasbourg. Because the other delegation is coming with other goals, other aspirations. We are also going to attend PACE Standing Committee sitting, we have already received an invitation. The ‘Belarusian question’ is to be considered for the third time there. De facto Belarus will have the “vacant seat” status, de jure – Supreme Soviet preserves its mandate. The mandate commission is still to determine the final status of Belarus”, -- Deputy Speaker of the 13th Supreme Soviet Anatoly Lebedko informed. 
Vladimir Goncharik Tries To Contest Results In Supreme Court 11:05, 24/09/2001

On September 24 Presidential candidate Vladimir Goncharik, leader of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, will forward to the Supreme Court a complete text of complaint on election code violations during the presidential election. The Supreme Court according to the rules of election disputes analysis, is to pass decision in 10 –days term. According to Goncharik, “the announced results of the election have nothing in common with the real choice of the people. Monitors have recorded thousands of violations, starting with non-admission of representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations to the election commissions, agitation for the one candidate in the state-run newspapers, radio and television and smear campaign directed against other candidates, and concluding with the mass replacement of the ballots”.

Meeting of law enforcement agencies leaders of Community member countries will take place on October 31 in CIS head-quarters. As press-secretary of executive committee of CIS Tatiana Yegorova announced in order of day of this meeting were included “topics actual for Community”. Including “co-operation of inter-state agencies of Community during realization Inter-state program joint actions against criminality during period since 2000 till 2003 and Program of member states of CIS against international terrorism and other displays of extremism in period till 2003”.
