“Pahonya’s” Case Put Off Till September 5 11:08, 27/09/2001

The session of the Supreme Economic court started considering the lawsuit, lodged by the regional Public Prosecutor’s Office over the liquidation of the newspaper “Pahonya” as a legal entity. Judge Zhandarev postpones the session for October 5, as the Public Prosecutor’s Office had not submitted the documents of additional inspection to the newspaper. 
Unemployment increase 11:06, 27/09/2001

On September 1 in Belarus were 103,3 thousand unemployed. This is 7,8% more than in the beginning of the year. Upon information of ministry of statistics and analysis unemployment rate reached 2,3% (in the beginning of the year – 2,1%). The highest rate of unemployment – in the eastern regions of the country. In Vitebsk and Mogilev regions it is 3%, in Gomel region – 2,8%, in Brest region – 2,1, in Minsk region – 2, in Minsk – 1,5. 
ZUBR Demands School Construction 11:04, 27/09/2001

ZUBR activists and members of the UCP Youth organization staged a protest against freezing of a secondary school construction in Soligorsk. Last week activists collected more than a thousand signatures of Soligorsk schoolchildren under a petition to A.Lukashenko and the chairwoman of the town executive committee Anna Lavrukevich. They demanded to go on with construction of the school building. After that 20 boys and girls from ZUBR and the UCP Youth gave the petition to the town committee executives. 
Closed Court For Vinnikova’s Son 11:03, 27/09/2001

In the court of the Central district of Minsk legal proceedings on the case of Sergey Vinnikov and three more citizens who are charged with illicit drugs trafficking (Article 328 of the Criminal Code). The court started on September 5, but while Vinnikova was unwell, the proceedings were suspended and restarted only on September 26. Judge Piotr Kirkovsky gave a positive response to a petition for a close court. If was made reportedly “for preventing leak of the confidential information on the private life of the persons involved in the case, that could insult their dignity”.
