Investigation Committee Drops Charges Of $1M Embezzlement Against Mikhail Chigir 11:04, 14/11/2001
Ex-Prime Minister Mikhail Chigir’s charges of 1 million dollars’ embezzlement were dropped. He was informed about it during interrogation at the Investigation Committee by the Internal Affairs Ministry. Investigators account for this fact that the term of the crime has expired. The earlier charges of taxes-evasion still remain.
Meanwhile former Prime Minister does not agree to the official reasons for dropping the case of bank money misuse. Chigir claims that he will make the court state him not guilty.
“Case closure because of the expired prescription does not clear me from accusations in the actions I have not performed. I will not succumb until this smear would not be cleared from my reputation. There is no answer for the question where is the money, and the investigators are not interested in it any more. But I insist that this case was taken to court again,” – Mikhail Chigir said in his interview to Radio Svaboda.
You must remember that in the end of the last year Minsk City Court had already made a ruling that bank money misuse by Mikhail Chigir is not proved, but the Prosecutor’s office contests this verdict.
