Lukashenko Needs Russia to Augment Arms Export 11:12, 16/11/2001
Alexander Lukashenko figures it’s high time they widened collaboration with the Russians in a defense sphere, including the export of ammunition. According to him, the cooperation of the two states in the area of weaponry consignment to exterior markets, is no secret to anyone. “We have plenty of things to trade and, bear in mind, that we violate no international norms or principles,” – noted Lukashenko.
RIA “Novosti” reports that the head of the Belarusian state met with the director general of the federal state company “Rosoboronexport” Andrei Belyaninov and the executive secretary of the Russian-Belarusian interstate financial industrial group “Defensive networks” Sergei Bakhetin. Belyaninov stressed the importance of coordinating the efforts of Belarus and Russia in shipping the weaponry to the world markets. He particularly singled out the need to coordinate the activities of producers in both states.
In course of their Minsk visit the delegation of “Rosoboronexport” and “Defensive networks” will meet with the Ministry of industry officials of Belarus and a whole range of Belarusian companies’ directors, as well as the state secretary of the Security Council Gennady Nevyglas.
The Interstate group “DN” has been set up on the basis of the analogous Russian group with the same name in compliance with the accord, reached between the governments of Russia and Belarus of February 11, 2001.
RIA “Novosti” reports that the advisor to the director general of the “DN” Igor Meschan called the company “the only interstate financial industrial group, operating on the basis of a really existing corporation between Russian and Belarusian manufacturers within the framework of planning, producing and modernizing the air-defense.”
